Track/Cross Country Official, former coach Shepherd dies

He worked many sectionals, regionals and coached at Marian.

GRANGER — Dave Shepherd, a long-time high school track and field and cross country official and former coach has passed away.

Shepherd, who was the only starter for the first 15 years of Penn High School’s Lady Kingsmen Invitational and an official at the County Clash cross country meet at Ox Bow County Park in Dunlap, died at 2:07 a.m. Friday, March 29, according to Mike Alspaugh of the St. Joseph Valley Officials Association.

Shepherd, who coached at Marian High School, worked 12 track sectionals and five regionals as well as eight cross country sectionals and one regional. He worked at the Culver officials clinic March 2.
