Girls Swimming Bursch, Galat earn top seeds
INDIANAPOLIS — The second-ranked Penn Kingsmen will have three swimmers seeded No. 1 heading into IHSAA Girls State Swimming and Diving finals Saturday, Feb. 9, at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis.
In the preliminaries on Friday, Feb. 8, Penn senior Addiyson Bursch posted the best time in the 100 free (50.71) and the 200 IM (2:00.08), while teammate Bethany Galat qualified first in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.09).
Galat, the defending state champion in the 200 IM, posted the second-best time (2:00.33) in that event behind Bursch.
Wawasee sophomore Breanne Robinson will be the No. 3 seed in the 100 free (50.83) and the 200 free (1:50.07). She was seeded first in both events coming into the preliminaries.
Northridge senior Brittney Walters qualified for the finals in two events. She qualified fourth in the 200 free (1:50.73) and eighth in the 500 free (4:59.53).
The only other local individual to qualify for the finals is Penn's Annie Spaulding in the 100 breaststroke. Spaulding posted a time of 1:03.50 and is seeded fourth.
All three of the Penn relay teams reached the finals, with the 200 IM relay and the 200 free squads seeded No. 2 behind Carmel. The Kingsmen's 400 relay team is seeded eighth.
