Fairfield to play No. 1 Yorktown for spot in 3A championship

Falcons' volleyball tournament run continues with win.

Fairfield will face top-ranked Yorktown in the Class 3A Plymouth Semistate championship tonight, Oct. 27, after both teams advanced with 3-0 sweeps in semifinal session earlier in the day.

The No. 7-rated Falcons beat Andrean 25-17, 25-20, 25-11, and then the Tigers eliminated South Bend St. Joseph 25-21, 25-14, 25-21.

Junior Haley Brown had match-leading figures of 15 kills and nine blocks in Fairfield’s win. Senior Ellen Line added 14 kills and 10 digs, while senior Riley Troyer dished up 36 assists.

The Falcons improved to 35-1, while defending 3A state champion Yorktown is 34-3.

The winner of tonight’s 7 p.m. showdown advances to next Saturday’s state title match at Ball State University in Muncie.
