Notre Dame opens spring football on cold March morning
Is it still considered spring football when it's -2 degrees outside?
Either way, Notre Dame kicked off its first day of spring practice from the warmth of the Loftus Center Monday, March 3.
A few observations from the 30-minute media viewing window:
- The first team offense during tempo drills: quarterback Everett Golson; running back Tarean Folston; receivers Corey Robinson, C.J. Prosise and Chris Brown; tight end Ben Koyack and offensive linemen (from left to right) Ronnie Stanley, Steve Elmer, Matt Hegarty, Christian Lombard, Mike McGlinchey.
- The first team defense during tempo drills: Romeo Okwara and Ishaq Williams at defensive end; Sheldon Day and Jarron Jones at tackle; Jaylon Smith, Kendall Moore and Joe Schmidt at linebacker; KeiVarae Russell and Cole Luke at cornerback and Austin Collinsworth and Max Redfield at safety.
- The defense worked exclusively in a four-man fronts, with linebackers Okwara and Williams lining up as first-team ends the entire 30 minutes.
- As expected, center Nick Martin (knee), defensive lineman Tony Springmann (ACL, infection), linebacker Jarrett Grace (leg) and cornerback Devin Butler (shoulder) sat out during drills.
