A look back at Notre Dame's 2013 roller coaster ride

With only a few hours left of 2013, let's take a look back at how 2013 panned out for Notre Dame.

With 2013 in the books - likely with a "good riddance" from most Irish fans - here's a look back at the top Notre Dame stories from the past year.

Happy New Year, all, and thanks for following Notre Dame football with me this year. It's been fun.

2013: A Year in Review

  • After a magical 2012 campaign, then-No. 1 Notre Dame opened 2013 with a devastating 42-14 loss to Alabama in the BCS National Championship Game on Jan. 7. But the 2013 roller coaster was just taking off...
  • Days later, reports cropped up that Brian Kelly was flirting with the Philadelphia Eagles coaching vacancy. Kelly went off the radar for a few days before eventually releasing a statement saying he was staying at Notre Dame.
  • On Jan. 16, Deadspin.com opened the biggest can of worms in recent Notre Dame post-season history by revealing that Manti Te'o's supposedly-dead girlfriend Lennay Kekua was a hoax. That fire burned for weeks.
