NOTRE DAME — Following in the footsteps of last year, Notre Dame football will open training camp at an off-campus location.
The Irish will kick off the 2014 pre-season Aug. 4 at Culver Military Academy, the University announced Friday, July 25.
Notre Dame will conduct five practices at Culver Military before returning to campus Aug. 9.
“Culver Military Academy will provide a unique and rewarding opportunity for our football program as we embark on the 2014 season,” head coach Brian Kelly said in a statement. “Culver holds a special place in my heart as my family has participated in camps on the grounds for years. We were able to initiate a successful program last year at Shiloh Park Retreat and Conference Center. Culver will significantly help improve the experience for our team this fall.”
According to John Buxton, Head of Schools at Culver Military Academy, this will be Notre Dame’s first visit to Culver since Lou Holtz brought his teams to the campus in 1995 and 1996.
