NOTRE DAME — Notre Dame head men's basketball coach Mike Brey will participate in the American Heart Association's second annual "Tip-Off for Heart" event, which is scheduled for 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, at ND's Purcell Pavillion.
The event is part of the local “Men of Heart” initiative, aimed at raising awareness surrounding men’s heart health. Heart disease is the No. 1 killer in America, with more than 2,500 heart attacks and 2,100 strokes occurring each day.
Local companies in the Michiana area will form teams of five and participate in a mix of fantasy camp, wellness education and team building. Participants will receive a low-impact, interactive and behind-the-scenes experience while learning about nutrition, heart risk factors, tips on getting active, leadership and the game of basketball.
Participants in each team will receive a blood pressure screening, gear and then cycle through five break-out clinics on nutrition, heart risk factors, strength and conditioning, basketball skill work and Notre Dame Basketball drills, where they will run the same drills as the college players.
The event will conclude with a networking reception, silent auction featuring sports experiences and memorabilia, and a heart-healthy dinner provided by Ruth’s Chris Steak House at Club Naimoli. Brey will lead a film breakdown session with the men, hold a leadership discussion and talk about his support of the lifesaving work of the American Heart Association.
