NOTRE DAME — If the Pinstripe Bowl was an audition, Mike Denbrock won the part.

Head coach Brian Kelly named Denbrock Notre Dame's offensive coordinator on Thursday, Jan. 30, according to a release from the university.

After former offensive coordinator Chuck Martin left to become the head coach at Miami of Ohio, Kelly named Denbrock the interim offensive coordinator for the Dec. 28 Pinstripe Bowl. Denbrock downplayed the idea of the bowl game serving as an audition for the full-time job, but he fell back on his personal and professional relationship with Kelly.

“I think he trusts me and knows that everything I do, I do with the idea of making Notre Dame football better,” Denbrock said in December. “From my standpoint, it’s a loyal friendship first and a working relationship that has stood the test of time.”

Denbrock coached with Kelly for eight seasons at Grand Valley State from 1992-98. When Kelly came to Notre Dame, he hired Denbrock on as a tight ends coach in 2010. Denbrock switched to outside receivers and the passing game coordinator in 2012.

Denbrock and Kelly will meet with the media at noon on Friday, Jan. 31.
