NOTRE DAME — Almost a year ago today, Corey Holmes visited Notre Dame for the first time.

Four visits and a whittled-down list of what he wanted in a school, and Holmes decided that he was destined for Notre Dame.

The 6-foot-2, 175-pound receiver from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., announced his commitment on July 17.

“Officially committed to the University of Notre Dame,” he tweeted Wednesday afternoon.

Holmes had just returned from a visit to UCLA when he sat down and examined his options and what he was looking for in a college.

“Once I did that I was able to take schools out of the mix and I was left with Notre Dame,” he told Irish Illustrated. “I felt Notre Dame had everything I wanted more than other schools. That kinda made it easy for me to make my decision.”

Holmes is a four-star receiver on Rivals.com and ranks as the 228th overall player in the 2014 class. Holmes makes the sixth Notre Dame commit in the Rivals.com Top 250.

Senior receivers TJ Jones and Daniel Smith graduate after this season, leaving DaVaris Daniels in charge of a young receiving corps that’s loaded with potential. Two commitments from receivers like Holmes and Justin Brent in 2014 are just what the Irish need.
