NOTRE DAME — The Notre Dame women’s basketball team’s next step in its attempt to return to the Final Four will be an Easter Sunday affair.

The Irish (33-1), a No. 1 seed in the NCAA women’s basketball tournament, will face 12th-seeded Kansas at noon Sunday, March 31, in Norfolk, Va. The game will air on ESPN.

Notre Dame defeated Iowa 74-57 in a second round game Tuesday to advance to the Sweet 16. Kayla McBride was the leading scorer with 28 points.

The Jayhawks scored a pair of upsets to join the Irish in the Sweet 16, beating fifth-seeded Colorado 67-52 and fourth-seeded South Carolina 75-69. Kansas (20-13) is the lowest seeded team remaining in the field.

Notre Dame made it all the way to the championship game last season before falling to Baylor.
