Parts of Fred Meijer recreational trail in western Michigan closed after storms, flooding
BIG RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — The state says parts of Fred Meijer White Pine Trail State Park in western Michigan are closed due to unsafe conditions following storms and flooding.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources announced this week that portions of the 92-mile recreational trail in Mecosta and Montcalm counties have the worst damage. The state says, however, that caution should be used while on any part of the trail.
Wind storms and spring runoff have left the trail with downed trees, flooding and debris. The trail runs from Cadillac in Wexford County to Comstock Park in Kent County.
DNR crews and the group Friends of the White Pine Trail are working to reopen the closed areas. There’s no estimated reopening date.
