Elkhart's Karvel Anderson named top player in NEC

PITTSBURGH — Karvel Anderson is at it again.

The Elkhart native and Robert Morris University senior was named this week as the Player of the Year in the Northeast Conference by a vote of the league coaches.

Anderson was the NEC's top scorer at 19.6 points per game. He's shooting 51.4 percent from the field and an eye-popping 45 percent from the 3-point line. On March 1, Anderson became the seventh player in conference history hit 100 3-pointers in a season.

With eight points in the upcoming NEC Tournament, Anderson, an Elkhart Memorial graduate, will set the school's single-season scoring mark set in 1991-92.

Robert Morris opened the NEC Tournament with a 60-53 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson on Wednesday, March 5. The Colonials will meet St. Francis (Pa.) in a semifinal game on Saturday, March 8.

The NEC champion earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Div. I basketball touranment.
