The 2014 South Bend Silver Hawks take flight Thursday, April 3, with the first of four games in Bowling Green, Ky.
The Hawks come home to Four Winds Field at Coveleski Stadium to begin a homestand on Tuesday, April 8.
Tenth-year manager Mark Haley heads into the Class-A Midwest League baseball season with a group that is expected to feature some of the top prospects in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization. He was the 2013 Midwest League Manager of the Year.
Right-handed pitcher Braden Shipley, currently on the disabled list, is the No. 2 prospect as chosen by Baseball America, right behind right-hander Archie Bradley.
Bradley, a former Silver Hawk, is expected to start the year at Triple-A Reno. He is No. 9 overall on the BA list.
The D-backs also have high hopes for right-hander Aaron Blair and outfielder Stryker Trahan.
Shipley, a first-round draft pick in 2013 out of the University of Nevada, went 0-1 with a 2.61 earned run average in four appearances in South Bend last summer.
Blair, a first-round selection in 2013 out of Marshall University, went 0-2 with a 3.57 in three games for the Silver Hawks last season.
Trahan, a left-handed stick, hit .254 with 10 home runs and 33 runs batted in in 59 games at Missoula in 2013. He was a first-rounder in 2012 out of Acadiana High School in Lafayette, La.
The Midwest League All-Star Game is Tuesday, June 17, at West Michigan.
