Boston Red Sox catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia will be in good company when he sports his bushy beard in the 2013 World Series. (AP Photo)

Even under their goaltender masks, Chicago Blackhawks’ Corey Crawford and Los Angeles Kings’ Jonathan Quick grew Stanley Cup playoff beards. (Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty Images)
Is the baseball beard to be feared or just plain weird?

Who has the fiercest beard in baseball?

The Boston Red Sox - heading into the World Series for the third time in the 2000's - would have you believe that they have the best collection of whiskers.

It also makes me think of a bygone baseball era when the Benton Harbor, Mich.- based House of David barnstormed with long hair and long facial growth.

Beards can't pitch, hit or catch. But they sure are fun to talk about.

Game 1 of the World Series is tonight (Oct. 23).

Count how many beard references FOX brings us. My guess is at least a dozen.
