Summer baseball teams, fall softball league need players and teams

Smash Softball League is looking for girls in grades 5-8 for a four-week league.

TEAM TRYOUTS

Baseball

Michiana Mayhem: Tryouts for the 2014-15 season for the 14U travel baseball team are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at Concord Little League. Each athlete needs to arrive 15 minutes prior to tryouts and must provide a copy of a birth certificate. For more information, call 574-575-2560 or email abailey@lci1.com.

Elkhart Titans: Tryouts for 2015 are at Titans Field at Sugar Grove, 58512 Old C.R. 17. The 12U tryout is at 2 p.m. Aug. 23. Only serious ball players should attend. Basketball

MBA Select: MBA Select tryouts are Sept. 7 for boys and Sept. 14 for girls at the ICE Athletic Center, Mishawaka. On Sept. 7, boys tryouts are 9:30 to 11 a.m. for sixth- through eighth-graders and 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for second- through fifth-graders. On Sept. 14, girls tryouts are 9:30 to 11:15 a.m. for grades 4-8.

Hoosier Premier:Hoosier Premier tryouts for boys and girls in grades 5-8 are 10 to 11:30 a.m. Sept. 6 at Eastlake Athletic Club in Elkhart, and 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 7 and Sept. 14 at Bethel College. Individuals need to attend only one of the three dates..

Softball

Indiana Xplosion: Tryouts for the travel softball organization are continuing on the Bethel College softball field at 419 W. LaSalle St., Mishawaka. Slow Pitch Softball

Plymouth Blueberry Festival: The 45th annual slow pitch softball event is Friday through Monday, Aug. 30-Sept. 2. Fields will be limited to 8 to 10 teams in each division — men’s upper, men’s lower and coed. There is a three-game guarantee. Entry deadline is Aug. 22. Basketball

MBA camps and leagues: Midwest Basketball Academy in Mishawaka offers a variety of upcoming summer camps and leagues overseen by coach Rod Creech, most open to individuals entering grades 3-12. Black Swish girls: The NorthWood High girls program is offering three-day girls basketball clinics for first- through fifth-graders at Nappanee, Wakarusa and Woodview elementary schools. Nappanee’s dates will be Sept. 9, 23 and Oct. 11; Wakarusa’s Oct. 7, 9 and 11; and Woodview’s Sept. 8, 25 and Oct. 11. Forms are to be distributed at the schools in the coming weeks.

 

LEAGUES

Sofftball

Smash Softball League: Fall league for girls in grades 5-8 will begin in Sept. 14 and run four weeks. Team are needed by Aug. 25. Games will be played at the Duerksen Complex in Nappanee at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Sundays and girls from all schools are welcome to participate. The cost is $40, which includes a team tee shirt. Soccer

EYCC: The Elkhart Youth and Community Center (formerly the YMCA of Elkhart County) is registering boys and girls for its coed soccer leagues until Aug. 20. Cost is $60 for EYCC members and $90 for non-members. Age divisions are: 3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9 and 10-12 and are subject to change based on registration numbers. Mandatory player evaluations to ensure team equality will be Aug. 20, 21 and 23 at EYCC. Practices begin the week of Aug. 25. Games begin Sept. 6 and run through Oct. 25. Lacrosse

ESC League: A 7-on-7 fall indoor league is scheduled to begin Oct. 26 at Elkhart Sports Center. The league is for high school and junior high boys. Games will be played beginning at 4 p.m. Sundays (no games Nov. 30). Cost is $125 by Oct. 1 ($155 after). Goalies play for $45. EAC Tennis: Eastlake Athletic Club in Elkhart offers indoor youth and adult tennis programs on the following schedule: beginner, Monday-Wednesday, 4 to 5 p.m.; intermediate, Monday-Wednesday, 5 to 6 p.m.; performance/Jr. Elite, Monday, 6 to 7:30 p.m. and Tuesday, 4 to 5:30 p.m.; Elite, Monday-Wednesday, 4 to 6 p.m.; Tuesday-Thursday, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.; 10-and-under, Friday, 4:30 to 5:30. ECBSA: Eastlake Chargers Baseball/Softball Academy is offering a new youth team training program called "Elite Baseball Team Development." This program is designed for any Little League or travel team and is intended to mentor both players and coaches. This offseason, the indoor program will have structured practices ran by former college players, coaches and even pro scouts. Hitting, fielding, pitching mechanics, arm care, velocity training, speed and agility, controlling the running game, and the mental side will all be emphasized. Tipping Point fall training: A wide variety of training sessions for different age groups are planned by Tipping Point Basketball at the Elkhart Sports Center beginning Aug. 24. Most offerings run six to seven weeks and are $125. For more information visit elkhartsportscenter.com.

Running

Rieth 5K Training Runs: The runs are scheduled for Tuesdays through Aug. 26. Sign-in begins at 5:45 p.m. with the run beginning at 6:30 p.m. The runs will be on an all-terrain course used since 1997 in the Goshen Parks Department Classified Woods and canal bank northwest of Goshen College between the Elkhart River and Goshen canal.
