Camps, leagues, training and tryouts among sports calendar offerings

CAMPS

Basketball

Moodie & McKnight Basketball Camp: Former Elkhart Express player Cedric Moodie and former Purdue basketball player Brandon McKnight will conduct boys and girls basketball camp sessions at South Bend Washington High School. The camp will run Aug. 9-10. Grades 1-6 will meet from 9 a.m. to noon. Grades 7-12 will meet from 1 to 4 p.m. Registration costs $65. MBA camps and leagues: Midwest Basketball Academy in Mishawaka offers a variety of upcoming summer camps and leagues overseen by coach Rod Creech, most open to individuals entering grades 3-12. Flag Football

Uprising Stars: Conditioning camp for boys and girls in grades 3-6 is scheduled to prepare for opening day, which is 9 a.m. Aug. 16. Cost is $20. For more information contact Ondrace Malone at 574-849-2372.

LEAGUES

Baseball

American Baseball Youth Association: ABYA will be hosting a six-week fall league for any teams in the 9-10U, 11-12U or 13U age groups at Riverview Park. The league will run Sundays from Aug. 17 through Sept. 21. Each team will play 10-12 games. Cost of the league is $425 per team. Registration is limited per age group. ESC Lacrosse League: A 7 v. 7 fall indoor league is scheduled to begin Oct. 26 at Elkhart Sports Center. The league is for high school and junior high boys. Games will be played beginning at 4 p.m. Sundays (no games Nov. 30). Cost is $125 by Oct. 1 ($155 after). Goalies play for $45. Playing levels include new to the game (0 years), beginner (1-2 years), intermediate (3-4 years) and advanced (5 or more years). To register visit www.elkhartsportscenter.com or call 574-294-5050.

Basketball

Tipping Point fall training: A wide variety of training sessions for different age groups are planned by Tipping Point Basketball at the Elkhart Sports Center beginning Aug. 24. Most offerings run six to seven weeks and are $125. For more information visit elkhartsportscenter.com.

Running

Rieth 5K Training Runs: The runs are scheduled for Tuesdays through Aug. 26. Sign-in begins at 5:45 p.m. with the run beginning at 6:30 p.m. The runs will be on an all-terrain course used since 1997 in the Goshen Parks Department Classified Woods and canal bank northwest of Goshen College between the Elkhart River and Goshen canal. Access to the Rieth Interpretive Center is off Plymouth Avenue south of Shanklin Park in Goshen. For more information contact Doug Yoder at dougy@goshen.edu.

Michiana Scrappers: The Michiana Scrappers will hold baseball and softball tryouts for the 2015 season Aug. 6 (9U & 10U, 5:30 to 7 p.m.; 11U & 12 U, 7 to 8:30 p.m.) at Pierre Moran Middle School, Aug. 9 (14U, 2 to 3:30 p.m.; 15-17U 3:30 to 6 p.m.) at Bethel College, Aug. 10 (13U, 5:30 to 7 p.m.;14U, 7 to 8:30 p.m.) at Riverview Park and Aug. 16 (9U & 10U, 1 to 2:30 p.m.; 11U & 12U, 2:30 to 4 p.m.; 13U, 2:30 to 4 p.m.; 14U, 4 to 5:30 p.m.; 15U 4 to 5:30 p.m.) at Riverview Park. Northern Indiana Outlaws: The travel team plans open tryouts for the 2015 season for the 14U age division at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 7, 2 p.m. Aug. 10 and noon Aug. 16 at Warsaw Little League. Softball

Michiana Mystique: Tryouts for the 2014-15 season for the Mystique are planned for 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 5 (12U), Aug. 6 (14U) and Aug. 7 (16U) at the team’s indoor facility at the South Bend Eagles Lodge, 61601 Ironwood Road. These are initial tryouts. There will be follow-up and alternate outdoor tryouts Aug. 9 (12U, 14U) and Aug. 10 (16U, 18U) at sites and times to be announced.
