CAMPS

Basketball

Western Michigan Elite Camp: The Western Michigan women's basketball program will hold its Elite Camp Aug. 2. at University Arena. The camp is open to girls entering grades 9-12 and cost is $45 per camper. Campers will hear from head coach Shane Clipfell, as well as assistant coaches, strength and conditioning and other support areas. For more information and to register, visit wmubroncos.com.

Tolson camps: Lindsey Steffen will conduct girls basketball camp sessions and Todd Johnson will lead boys camp sessions at the Tolson Center in Elkhart. Camps are just $5 each. The girls camps are July 31 for those entering grades 3-5 and Aug. 1 for those entering grades 6-8. Boys camps are Aug. 7 for grades 3-5 and Aug. 8 for grades 6-8. Each session runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For registration forms, visit the Tolson Center at 1320 Benham Ave. Camp-day registrations will be accepted beginning at 8:30 a.m. For more information, call 574-295-6456.

Moodie & McKnight Basketball Camp: Former Elkhart Express player Cedric Moodie and former Purdue basketball player Brandon McKnight will conduct boys and girls basketball camp sessions at South Bend Washington High School. The camp will run Aug. 9-10. Grades 1-6 will meet from 9 a.m. to noon. Grades 7-12 will meet from 1 to 4 p.m. Registration costs $65. MBA camps and leagues: Midwest Basketball Academy in Mishawaka offers a variety of upcoming summer camps and leagues overseen by coach Rod Creech, most open to individuals entering grades 3-12. Flag Football

Elkhart Eagles: A flag football camp is 3 to 5 p.m. July 28-31 at Osceola Grace Brethren Church. The camp is open to anyone entering grades K-6. Cost is $20. As part of the camp there will be positional training, agility work and flag games. Each camper will also receive an Elkhart Eagles T-shirt, and there will positional awards as well as punt/pass/kick awards. Uprising Stars: Conditioning camps for boys and girls in Grades 3-6 is scheduled to prepare for opening day, which is 9 a.m. on Aug. 16. Cost is $20. For more information, contact Ondrace Malone at 574-849-2372.

 

LEAGUES

Baseball

American Baseball Youth Association: ABYA will be hosting a 6 week fall league for any teams in the 9-10U, 11-12U or 13U age groups at Riverview Park. The league will run on Sundays Aug. 17 through Sept. 21. Each team will play 10-12 games. Cost of the league is $425.00/team Registration is limited per age group. TOURNAMENTS

Baseball

Concord Little League tourneys: Baseball tourneys for ages 8U, 9U, 10U, 11U and 14U teams are planned for July 25-27 at Concord Little League. The 8U event is machine pitch and is $250 per team. Whiffleball tourney: The 10th annual New Carlisle Hometown Days City Championship whiffleball tourney is planned for July 26-27 at the New Prairie Little League Complex. Teams consist of four to five players with slow-pitch rules. Entry fee is $40 per team. Deadline to guarantee a spot is July 19. To sign up visit www.thecitychampionship.com. Northern Indiana Open Baseball Tournament: The Northern Indiana Open Baseball Tournament is open to 10U, 12U and 14U teams and will run Aug. 2 and 3 at Concord Little League. For more information, call 574-850-9579 or email n.cardinals@aol.com.

 

TRAINING

Rieth 5K Training Runs: The runs are scheduled for Tuesdays through Aug. 26. Sign-in begins at 5:45 p.m. with the run beginning at 6:30. The runs will be on an all-terrain course used since 1997 in the Goshen Parks Department Classified Woods and canal bank northwest of Goshen College between the Elkhart River and Goshen canal. Access to the Rieth Interpretive Center is off of Plymouth Avenue south of Shanklin Park in Goshen. For more information contact Doug Yoder at dougy@goshen.edu.

Michiana Scrappers: The Michiana Scrappers will hold baseball and softball tryouts for the 2015 season Aug. 6 (9U & 10U, 5:30 to 7 p.m.; 11U & 12 U, 7 to 8:30 p.m.) at Pierre Moran Middle School, Aug. 9 (14U, 2 to 3:30 p.m.; 15-17U 3:30 to 6 p.m.) at Bethel College, Aug. 10 (13U, 5:30 to 7 p.m.;14U, 7 to 8:30 p.m.) at Riverview Park and Aug. 16 (9U & 10U, 1 to 2:30 p.m.; 11U & 12U, 2:30 to 4 p.m.; 13U, 2:30 to 4 p.m.; 14U, 4 to 5:30 p.m.; 15U 4 to 5:30 p.m.) at Riverview Park. Those interested in trying out should pre-register at www.michianascrappers.com or contact Brian at 574-310-3924.

Northern Indiana Outlaws: The travel team plans open tryouts for the 2015 season for the 14U age division at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 7, 2 p.m. Aug. 10 and noon Aug. 16 at Warsaw Little League. Football

Elkhart Football Club & Elkhart Eagles: Registration for the fall season is scheduled through Aug. 1. The program is for any student entering grades 7-12. Softball

Indiana Waverunners: Tryouts for the 2015 fastpitch softball season are scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 2 (14U, 10 a.m. to noon; 16U and 18U, noon to 2 p.m.), Sunday and Aug. 3 (14U, 1 to 3 p.m.; 16U and 18U, 3 to 5 p.m.) at the varsity and JV softball fields at Elkhart Central High School (west side of the school). Pitchers are asked to bring their own catcher. Rain date is Saturday. Aug. 9 (14U, 10 a.m. to noone; 16U and 18U, noon o 2 p.m.).
