Six Silver Hawks chosen for Midwest League All-Star Game

The game is slated for June 17 at West Michigan.

SOUTH BEND — Six South Bend Silver Hawks will be heading to Michigan soon for the 2014 Midwest League All-Star game.

The 2014 All-Star game will be played June 17 at Fifth Third Ballpark, Comstock Park, Michigan, home to the West Michigan Whitecaps.

Approaching the All-Star game, the Silver Hawks lead the Midwest League with a record of 35-22 and a 3.5 game lead over the West Michigan Whitecaps. The six players selected for the 2014 All-Star game are shortstop Andrew Velazquez, designated hitter Steve McQuail, infielders Joe Munoz and Daniel Palka and pitchers Adam Miller and Will Locante.

Velazquez leads the league in triples (11) and total bases (110), second in the league in runs scored (47) and fourth in the league in hits (67). Palka is third in the league in runs batted in (39) and has seven home runs. McQuail is hitting .304 with six home runs and 20 runs batted in. Munoz has a batting average of .310 with five home runs and 15 RBI’s. On the pitcher's mound for the Silver Hawks, Locante is 2-0 this year with an ERA of 1.99 while Miller is 3-0, with an ERA of 2.80.
