Mandatory orientation for Elkhart County Junior Golf Tour planned May 14

Any player who intends to play this summer must be present or have a family representative at the meeting.

ELKHART — A mandatory orientation for the 2014 Elkhart County Junior Golf Tour is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednedsay, May 14, in the banquet room at Christiana Creek Country Club, 116 W. Bristol St., Elkhart.

Any player who intends to play this summer must be present or have a family representative at the meeting, where rules, website and tournament format changes will be covered.

The tour (www.elkhartcountyjuniorgolf.com) is open to players boys and girls ages 10-18 in northern Indiana and southern Michigan. Age groups are 8-9 (5 holes; $12), 10-11 (9 holes; $15), 12-13 (9 holes; $15), 14-15 (18 holes; $20) and 16-18 (18 holes; $20).

Tour stops are slated for Friday, June 13 (Meadow Valley, Middlebury), Monday, June 16 (McCormick Creek, Nappanee), Friday, June 20 (Old Orchard, Elkhart), Wednesday, June 25 (Timber Ridge, Millersburg), Monday, June 30 (South Bend Country Club), Monday, July 7 (Orchard Hills, Buchanan, Mich.), Friday, July 11 (Black Squirrel, Goshen), Monday, July 21 (Knollwood, Granger), Monday, July 28, Christiana Creek, Elkhart) and Aug. 9 (Tournament of Champions at Christiana Creek).

Doug Spurlock is the tour president. John Fischer and Brody Fischer serve as directors.

"We need to build junior golf in this area," said John Fischer, the head pro at Christiana Creek. "We need to build state champions in Michiana."
