MILWAUKEE — Stef Wilmore, an Elkhart Central High School graduate, has been named as the Alverno College Student-Athlete of the Year and the Inferno’s softball MVP for 2012-13.
Wilmore, the school’s student-athlete of the year in 2011-12, won her third straight team MVP award.
The senior catcher was named to the all-Northern Athletics Conference first team and all-Great Lakes Region second team.
Alverno’s all-time hits leader helped the Inferno (18-18) to the first .500-season in school history, as the team set the school record for wins for the second-straight season.
Wilmore ended the season as the top hitter in the conference with a .491 batting average, which ranks 19th nationally in the most recent NCAA statistics report. Likewise, she had the NAC’s top on-base percentage (.565), slugging percentage (.935) and hit a league-high 17 doubles to become the NAC’s all-time leader with 54 in her four-year career. Her slugging percentage currently ranks seventh in NCAA Division III, and she is 10th in doubles per game.
Wilmore’s nine home runs and 45 runs batted in ranked fourth in the conference and ranks 15th nationally in RBI per game. She amassed a 20-game hit streak that set a school record and was just three away from the NAC’s all-time mark. Wilmore was named NAC Position Player of the Week twice this season.
Defensively she committed just two errors for a .989 fielding percentage, threw out 10 base runners attempting to steal and picked off one.
