‘The Shirt’ unveiled ahead of spring finale (video)

NOTRE DAME — Had it been able to see into the future, Notre Dame would have made the 2013 edition of “The Shirt” long-sleeved.

Head football coach Brian Kelly unveiled the school’s annual T-shirt in windy, snowy weather Friday, April 19. Kelly called this year’s shirt, which is kelly green and reads “On the heels of legends/we rise to victory” on the back, “the best (shirt)” yet.

The Shirt typically makes its first mass debut at Notre Dame’s annual Blue-Gold spring scrimmage.

While Notre Dame’s month-long drills culminate with the popular scrimmage Saturday afternoon, calling it the Blue-Gold “spring” game doesn’t seem fitting this year. When the Irish kick off at 1 p.m. Saturday, it’ll be only the fourth time this spring they will be playing outside.

“If it snows tomorrow, it’ll be my first time playing in snow,” sophomore defensive end Sheldon Day said. “So I don’t know how to feel about that.”

Frustrating weather aside, safety Matthias Farley said he’s looking forward to having fun with his team during the scrimmage.

“It’s the fruit of all your labor for the whole spring to go out there and actually play, not necessarily a game, but getting a lot more opportunities to make plays,” Farley said.

HOW TO WATCH

The Irish kick off their annual Blue-Gold scrimmage at 1 p.m. at Notre Dame Stadium on Saturday. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children 18 years and younger. The ticket office opens at 9 a.m. Saturday, and parking lots open at 8 a.m. and are free to the public.

Don’t feel like braving the cold? NBC Sports Network will broadcast the game. The game will also be on the radio at WSBT 960 AM and 96.1 FM.
