Kids fitness program starts April 13 at Elkhart Sports Center

Volleyball

Goshen youth clinic, league: Goshen High School will conduct a clinic for grades 4-5 April 15-19 at GHS. After the clinic, a league is scheduled with one practice a week followed by matches on Thursdays (April 25, May 2 and May 9). Each Goshen elementary school will have a team. There is no cost for the league and only girls that come to the clinic will be a part of their school’s team. Registration forms are available at Goshen elementary schools and must be returned to the schools’ main office by April 11. ESC spring youth league: The second annual league at the Elkhart Sports Center, for U12 and U14 girls, is set for Sundays beginning April 14, skipping May 12 and concluding May 19. Cost is $400 per team of eight to 10 players. There will be eight matches plus a single-elimination tourney. For more information, visit www.elkhartsportscenter.com.

Softball

Plymouth adult league: Teams and individuals are being sought for men’s and coed slow pitch leagues that play the first week of June through the middle of August in Plymouth. Church teams are welcome. For more information, call Ed 6 to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday at 780-6865.

Basketball

ESC high school, junior high training: Tipping Point Basketball at the Elkhart Sports Center is offering offseason training classes. There are six sessions per class, each 90 minutes in length. Cost is $129. Dates and times are: high school boys, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays beginning April 25; high school girls, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays beginning April 23; junior high boys, 4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday’s beginning April 25; and junior high girls, 4:30 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays beginning April 23. T-Point small-group training: Small-group training programs for ages 8-12 are offered at the Elkhart Sports Center. Dates are April 29-May 29. Days and times vary. Cost is $75. For more information, visit www.elkhartsportscenter.com.

Holy Cross Hoops for Hope 3-on-3: The event to help Holy Cross College outreach programs in Brazil, Ghana, India and Peru is for boys and girls ages 9 to 14 and scheduled for April 27-28 on the Holy Cross campus. Elkhart County Parks Fishing Contest: As part of its annual Family Fishing Day, Elkhart County Parks & Recreation Department has scheduled its free fishing contest for all ages on Saturday, June 1 at Black Maple Shelter inside Ox Bow County Park near Dunlap. Fitness

Kids Blast: A six-week fitness program for children ages 6-12 is planned for 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. on six consecutive Saturdays beginning April 13 at the Elkhart Sports Center Performance Fitness Area. Elements of the program will include strength training flexibility, team challenges, fun drills, nutrional tips and bully-proof strategies. Cost is $125, which includes a T-shirt and gloves. Road Runs

Steve’s Run running/walking training program: The free clinic is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 11 in the new Foundation Meeting Room 906 on the Southwestern Michigan University campus in Dowagiac. Sunburst Races: Registration is now open for the 30th annual Sunburst Races on May 31 (family fun walk) and June 1 (marathon, half marathon, 10K run, 5K run, 5K fitness walk). Notre Dame Stadium is the finish line for the races. To register, go to www.sunburstraces.org.
