FORT WAYNE - Penn catcher Max Andresen and Marian pitcher Taylor Krugh have been named to the North squad for the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association North-South All-Star Series.
The event is scheduled for July 8-10 at Parkview Field in Fort Wayne. Games are slated July 9 (11 a.m. doubleheader) and July 10 (noon wood bat game). The banquet is 7:30 p.m. July 9 at Parkview Field.
Andresen, who is bound for the Miami (Ohio) University, is coming off a 2011 senior season at Penn in which he hit .423 with nine home runs and 28 runs batted in, He helped coach Greg Dikos' Kingsmen win the Northern Indiana Conference and South Bend Clay Sectional.
Krugh, who is headed to the University of North Carolina-Asheville, was the starting pitcher for coach Tim Prister's Marian Knights in the Class 3A state championship loss to Crawfordsville. This season, the right-handed Krugh went 8-4 with a 2.68 earned run average and 89 strikeouts in 70 innings.
Other players of regional note on the North team are Plymouth first baseman Damon Howe, LaPorte pitcher Conner Podkul, and Goshen College recruit and Crown Point graduate Jose Andrade. Northwestern's Ryan Berryman is the North's head coach. The South will be led by Westville's Ryan Bunnell.
