WALKERTON — Jeffrey A. Babcock, 59, a resident of Walkerton, passed away at 5:42 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, at his home.
Jeff was born May 13, 1955, in South Bend and has lived in Walkerton for the past 24 years.
On Jan. 8, 1990, he married Sally A. Salyers.
Along with his loving wife, Sally, Jeff is survived by his two daughters, Andrea (Howard) Sims of Elkhart and Christen Babcock of Dallas; three grandchildren, Adrean, Atavian and Amiyah Sims; parents Robert (Helga) Babcock Sr. and Sheila Hobson, both of South Bend; and his five siblings, Tracey (Bill) Stafford of Elkhart, Robert (Carla) Babcock Jr. of South Bend, Kurt (Heidi) Babcock of Indianapolis, Annette (John) Tysver of Walkerton and Terry Babcock of South Bend.
Shortly after moving to Walkerton, Jeff began helping coach the Urey Middle School football team. He loved working with the students and was soon recruited by Mr. Reese, the school principal, to join the Urey Middle School staff. Jeff has worked for the John Glenn School Corp. for the past 18 years in custodial services at Urey Middle School. Before being recruited to work for the John Glenn School Corp., Jeff also worked at Kabelin Hardware in Walkerton and was Service Manager for R.V. America in Elkhart.
He was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Free Church in South Bend, where he was a drummer for their worship band. Jeff was a member of the Indiana Trail Rider’s Association, an avid University of Notre Dame fan and a golf enthusiast.
Jeff will be remembered most for being a loving husband, father, son, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18, in the gymnasium at Trinity Evangelical Free Church, 61770 Miami Road, South Bend. Pastor Steve Meck will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow in Morris Cemetery, Walkerton. Friends may visit with the family from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, at Urey Middle School, 407 Washington St., Walkerton. Friends may also visit with the family an hour prior to services Monday, Aug. 18, at the church.
Palmer Funeral Home, Lakeville, is assisting with funeral arrangements.
