SOUTH BEND — Shirley Carter, 75, of South Bend, passed away after an extended illness at 6:20 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at Healthwin Specialized Care in South Bend.
She was born Oct, 23, 1938, in South Bend to the late Harry and Elsie (Scott) Reid.
Shirley graduated from Ivy Tech Community College in South Bend with an associate degree in accounting and worked as a tax consultant.
Shirley is survived by one daughter, Norma J. (Jim) Clark of South Bend; two sisters, Maxine Taylor of Irving, Texas, and Nadine (LeVar) Johnson of Elkhart; one sister-in-law, Nancy Reid of South Bend; one aunt, Geraldine Scott of Elkhart; two grandchildren, Jordan C. and Jennessa E. Clark, both of South Bend; and 17 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Betty Spann, Norma Blanchard and Mary Johnson; one brother, Harry Reid Jr; two nephews, Jon Reid and Roderick Reid; and her former husband, John Carter.

Shirley loved bingo, Notre Dame football, Blue Chip casino, and spending time with her family and grandchildren whom she loved and cherished. She was also a member of New Generations Christian Ministries.
She will be dearly missed by her loving family, her church family and numerous friends she made during her life journey.
There will be no visitation and a memorial service will be at a later date. Shirley’s wishes were to be cremated and her loving family has honored those wishes.
