Michael L. Westjohn
June 28, 1947 - June 6, 2014

ELKHART — Michael L. “Big Daddy” Westjohn, 66, of Elkhart, passed away at 4:10 p.m. Friday, June 6, at Elkhart Hospice House.

He was born June 28, 1947, in Cadillac, Mich., to the late Leonard and Frances (Schlorff) Westjohn.

On Nov. 24, 1972, in Elkhart, he married Margaret Ruth Jones.

She survives along with two children, Holly (John) Crume IV and Damon L. Westjohn both of Elkhart; four grandchildren, Sarah Crume, Ophelia Smiley, Allison Crume, and Payton Crume; three siblings, Mary Jo (Michael) Brien of South Bend, Richard (Gloria) Shew of South Carolina, and David (Beverly) Westjohn of Mason, Mich.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Patty June and Phyllis Ann.

Mike was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran serving from June 1965 through June 1968. He served in Vietnam in 1966 and 1967.Mike was a member of River of Life Community Church in Elkhart, and former member and elder of Christian Center in South Bend. He was an artist and enjoyed drawing and painting. Mike was a printer and retired in 2009, from Barger Packaging.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 9, at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, at the funeral home. The Rev. Dr. Janet Cook from the River of Life Community Church, will preside. At the conclusion of the service, the U.S. Army Honor Guard and Elkhart DAV chapter will render military honors. Cremation will follow the service.
