MARION — Janette R. Blocher, 68, peacefully passed away at 5:15 p.m. Friday, May 9, surrounded by her family.
Janette was born in Goshen on Oct. 4, 1945.
She was a 1963 graduate of Concord High School in Elkhart.
On Jan. 23, 1965, she married Dennis A. Blocher. After 49 years of marriage he preceded her in death on March 29, 2014.
They came to Marion in 1963 and 10 years later started Associated Supply, Inc. In the late 1970's they opened Dynamite Building Maintenance. The two companies continue to thrive under the leadership of their children.
Her house spoke to her and she used her keen design talent to honor its historic value and make it her home and sanctuary. It was a comfort and joy not only for her but for all who passed through the welcoming door.
Throughout her life she honed her artistic and creative interests, recently finding photography as one of her many award- winning talents.
Whether she was cooking or planning a party or an evening at home with her family and clutch of close friends, it was always a meaningful event that made everyone feel special and loved. Janette was fiercely private and had a sharp intuitive sense, always giving careful consideration in everything she did and said. She was thoughtful in every way.
Janette was a devoted wife and mother and beloved “Nan,” daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She is survived by three children, Matthew D. (Anna Willis) Blocher, Marnie L. (Richard L.) Francis and Heather R. (Ross A.) Working, all of Marion; mother Lois M. Doty of Elkhart; devoted caregiver and dearest friend and sister, Marcy J. Hoogenboom of Elkhart; sister Danielle K. (Don) Huddler of Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren Abby R. (David) Francis of Gas City and Sadie E. Working of Marion; and one great-grandchild Hallie Rose Francis.
Janette was preceded in death by her father, Kermit Doty, and brother, Randall Doty.
A memorial service befitting her style and grace will be at a later date.
Owen-Weilert-Duncan Funeral Home, Marion Chapel, 2722 S. Washington St., Marion, is entrusted with arrangements.
The Blocher family requests memorial donations be made to Progressive Cancer Care, 831 N. Theatre Road, Marion, IN 46952.
