EDWARDSBURG, Mich. — Danny Edward "Moe" Johnson, 61, of Edwardsburg, passed to his rest from natural causes Thursday, May 1, in the emergency room at Elkhart General Hospital.
Moe was born Oct. 13, 1952, in Niles, the son of Charles and Gladys (DePoy) Johnson.
He grew up in the Edwardsburg area and graduated from Edwardsburg High School. He continued his education with a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts at Western Michigan and received his master’s degree from Notre Dame.
Moe’s life was filled with many different ventures. He was a contract employee for Homeland Security, and was author of a book, "Back Side of the Helping Hand," written as a result of working as a fraud investigator for the state of Indiana. He enjoyed being a private investigator, bail bondsman, as well as a claims representative for Social Security Administration.
He had been a substitute teacher for Edwardsburg Schools, panned for gold out West, was a licensed stock broker and a former NRA firearms instructor.
Moe was married May 8, 2009, in Cassopolis, to Ruth A. Spencer. She survives with a brother, Charlie Johnson of Edwardsburg; and two aunts, Anita (DeVerl) Weller and Marilyn (Jim) Days, both of Niles.
He was a member of Edwardsburg Conservation Club and enjoyed the fellowship of the club.
Dan "Moe" Johnson has been cremated and a memorial service will be at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at Edwardsburg Conservation Club, 26524 Pine Lake St., Edwardsburg. There will be buffet dinner following at 6 p.m., with fellowship continuing until 10 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to Edwardsburg Conservation Club in his memory.
