SOUTH BEND — Betty L. Koontz, 85, of South Bend, died Sunday, April 13, at Valley View Health and Rehabilitation Center in Elkhart.
The Benton Harbor, Mich., native was born Aug. 29, 1928, to Arthur L. and Anna E. (Steffey) Jones. Betty was a homemaker, member of American Legion Post 50, Ladies’ Auxiliary and attended Cedar Road Missionary Church.
She enjoyed music and dancing, camping and fishing, and most recently, enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening and the outdoors, watching birds and squirrels.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, William D. Koontz, in 1999 and son Randall Koontz in 2013, as well as three brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by her son, William A. (Peggy) Koontz of Osceola; daughters Phyllis J. “P.J.” (Michael) Powell of Osceola and Mariellen J. (John) Graf of South Bend; grandchildren Jason (Kristin) Koontz of Mishawaka, Holly (Jon) Colburn of Mishawaka, Gregory Powell of Osceola, Trisha Powell of Osceola, Joe Graf of South Bend, Danielle Graf of Bloomington and Felicia Graf of South Bend; and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at the Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 17, at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family’s preferred memorials are Cedar Road Missionary Church or Harbor Light Hospice.
