Jeanne M. Dockery

Dec. 29, 1923 - April 5, 2014

ELKHART — Jeanne M. Dockery, 90, residing at Hubbard Hill Retirement Community, Elkhart, passed away at 4:35 a.m. Saturday, April 5, at Hubbard Hill.

She was born Dec. 29, 1923, in Slatedale, Pa., to the late Frank E. and Standa Ellen (Berkemeyer) Schleicher, and had resided here since coming from Pennsylvania in 1944.

On July 25, 1953, in South Bend, she married Kenneth E. Dockery, who preceded her in death Oct. 22, 2002.

Mrs. Dockery is survived by her daughter, Diane Reynolds of Osceola, Robert Reynolds of Elkhart; two sons, Gary E. Dockery of Mishawaka, Diane Schafer-Dockery of Granger and Thomas D. (Theresa) Dockery of South Bend; and five grandchildren, Kristen, Anne and Thomas "TJ" Dockery, and Bryce and Beth Reynolds.

Her sister, Hilda Wanamaker, and two brothers, Harold and Carlton Schleicher, preceded Jeanne in death.

Mrs. Dockery retired in 1992 after 20 years of service as secretary at Gospel Center Missionary Church, South Bend. She also served as administrative assistant at Hubbard Hill Estates Retirement Community, Elkhart, after 20 years. She retired in 1993 from full-time employment and in 2003 from part-time employment.

Jeanne graduated from Slatington (Pa.) High School and received a Bible and music certificate from Fort Wayne Bible Institute, Fort Wayne. She was a longtime member of Gospel Center Missionary Church, where she served as organist, pianist and in many ministry outreaches of the church. She was a member and past president of Hubbard Hill Estates Auxiliary.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, and from 9:30 a.m. until the 10 a.m. funeral service Thursday, April 10, at Hubbard Hill Retirement Community Chapel, 28070 C.R. 24, Elkhart. Dr. Thomas Murphy will officiate.

Graveside services and burial will follow in Olive Cemetery, Wakarusa.

Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, South Bend, is assisting the family with arrangements.
