GOSHEN — The Rev. Thomas R. Riggs, 78, of Goshen, went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by family and friends, at 1:55 a.m. Friday, March 28, in his residence.
He was born Feb. 12, 1936, in Westborne, Tenn., to Walter Riggs and Flonnie Opal (Meadows) Lee.
He married Barbara J. (Denman) Riggs on Oct. 9, 1954, in Liberty.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara; children Kathryn Evans, James Riggs, Charles (Shirley) Riggs, Deborah Riggs, John (Chris Lorenzo) Riggs, Paul Riggs, David Riggs and Mark (Crystal) Riggs, all of Goshen; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, stepfather Isham Lee, two sisters and a great-grandchild.
Thomas was a Goshen city ordinance administrator for 16 years, retiring in 2004. He pastored various Pentecostal churches in the area and attended New Paris Full Gospel Community Church and Goshen Pentecostal House of Prayer. He was named Historian of the Year in 2012 and started the Dickerson Landing Neighborhood Association. He was involved in the Historical Association and the Lincoln Highway Association and was a avid steam engine buff.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 30, and for an hour prior to the 11 a.m. service Monday, March 31, all at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen. Pastor Fred Curry and Pastor Bill Lamb will officiate. Burial will be in Oakridge Cemetery.
