HIGHLAND, Ill. — Madonna June Monroe, 90, of Highland, formerly of Elkhart, Ind., died Friday, Feb. 14, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.

HIGHLAND, Ill. — Madonna June Monroe, 90, of Highland, formerly of Elkhart, Ind., died Friday, Feb. 14, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.

June was born Aug. 8, 1923, to Henry and Treva (Withiam) Messner in Nappanee, Ind.

She married Jesse James Monroe on Feb. 14, 1970, in Angola, Ind. He preceded her in death May 18, 2005.

She is survived by a son, Ted (Katie) Sautter of Elkhart; stepsons Dennis (Diana) Monroe of Goodyear, Ariz., and Kit (Marsha) Monroe of Elkhart; brother Jack (Gerry) Messner of Maple Grove, Minn.; grandchildren Cathy Gilomen of St. Jacob, Melinda (Galen) Albrecht of Bay City, Mich., andTodd (Holly) Sautter of Leesburg, Ind.; stepgrandchildren Paige Moody, Laura Nichols and Michell Rowan; 11 great-grandchildren; and very special friend, Maryellen Sautter of Highland. She was preceded in death by a son, Richard Sautter.

June was a graduate of LaGrange High School. She was former owner of Sautter Floral and Greenhouse before retiring. June was a member of Central Christian Church. She loved to quilt, cross stitch and make crafts. She also loved golfing and had two holes-in-one. She enjoyed her time working with her granddaughter, Cathy, great-granddaughter, Trisha, and her dear friend Maryellen at It’s A Piece of Cake in St. Jacob.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, at Central Christian Church. Dr. Mike Wills will officiate. Entombment will follow in Chapel of Peace Mausoleum in Rice Cemetery.
