Dorothea M. Robbins
BURR OAK, Mich. — Dorothea Marie Robbins, 98, of Burr Oak, passed away early Friday morning, Feb. 7, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
She was born Aug. 6, 1915, in Burr Oak Township, the daughter of the late Albert and Clara (Hagelgans) Kaas.
Mrs. Robbins was a lifelong Burr Oak resident and valedictorian of Burr Oak High School with the class of 1933. She and her husband enjoyed spending many years wintering at their home in Florida.
On March 16, 1935, she married Robert F. Robbins in Burr Oak. He died Feb. 5, 2006.
Mrs. Robbins was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burr Oak, where she was a member of the Ladies Aide and served as a Sunday school teacher. For many years she served as a 4-H leader, and she enjoyed playing cards, gardening and sewing.
Mrs. Robbins was happiest when she was surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters, Karen (David) Roudebush of Fremont, Ind., and Judy (Phillip) Chrisman of Nappanee, Ind.; seven grandchildren, Steve Chrisman, Cathy Chrisman, Angela Shortridge, Michele Purkey, Michael Roudebush, James Roudebush and Richard Roudebush; six great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Herbert Haskins of Sturgis; sister-in-law June Kaas of Appleton, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother, Wayne Kaas.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, in the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis: 269-651-2331. Funeral services celebrating the life of Dorothea Robbins will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burr Oak. The Rev. Kurt Kuhlmann will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service in Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak.
