UNION, Mich — Sydney E. "Sid" Hagerty, 86, of Union, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, at Cass County Medical Care Facility following an extended illness.

He was born Feb. 6, 1927, in White Pigeon, the child of Harley and Lillian (Lamb) VanAntwerp.

He graduated from Scott High School and Tri-State University. He was a World War II U.S. Air Force veteran.

He retired from Bendix in South Bend, Ind., as a mechanical engineer. He was a past member of Porter Township zoning board and Bendix salaried retirees club. He enjoyed woodworking and repairing items. He was a White Pigeon, Scott and Union resident all of his life.

He married Pauline R. Custer on July 24, 1946. She preceded him in death Aug. 27, 2005. He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving relatives include his daughter, Jacquelyn Hagerty of Union; brother, Jack (Mary) Antwerp of Howe, Ind., sister, Eva Ann (Alan) Snyder of Constantine; Pat and Patti Culp of Sturgis, Julie and Jack Senger and their children, Jamie, Jarrett and Jenna Senger of Millersburg, and Judy and Bob Binder of Union.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, at The Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon, where services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31. The Rev. Scott Manning of White Pigeon United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will take place in White Pigeon Township Cemetery.
