GOSHEN — Harriet Holdeman, 95, of Goshen, died at 2 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, at Greencroft Healthcare, Goshen.
She was born July 19, 1918, in Goshen to John and Ollie (Smink) Hottenga.
She married Ernest Edward Holdeman on Nov. 18, 1938, in Wakarusa. He died July 25, 1985.
Surviving are her daughter, Olive Holdeman of Goshen; grandchildren Thomas Wilson, Annette Wilson and Susan (Richard Valkenburg) Casteel; great-grandchildren Marc Casteel, Quinn Baughman and Samantha Gardner; and great-great-grandchild Fiona Casteel.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband; daughter Joy R. Wilson on May 29, 2013; sisters Freida George and Martha Froelich; and brother Johnny Hottenga.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Bashor Children’s Home Auxillary. She and her husband were charter members of Goshen Historical Society and Goshen Cardiac Club.
She enjoyed cooking and baking for family, friends and neighbors. Even with her dementia she still enjoyed nature and birds. The family wishes to thank the Greencroft Healthcare staff for their love and care while Harriett was there.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at Rieth Rohrer Ehret Funeral Home in Goshen and for one hour prior to the 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, funeral service at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dick Rinearson and the Rev. Jay Morris will officiate. A private burial will be in Oakridge Cemetery.
