MIDDLEBURY — Emma J. Bailey, 74, died Saturday afternoon, Dec. 21, 2013, at Hospice House, Elkhart, from complications after a long battle with cancer.
She was born Dec. 29, 1938, in Wakarusa to Ivan and Gertrude (Hartley) Hahn.
On Oct. 6, 1957, she married Paul Bailey. He died March 8, 2006.
She is survived by a daughter, Cathleen Berkey of Elkhart; five sons, Paul Jr. (Stacey) Bailey of Kansas City, Mo., Phillip (Becci) Bailey of Irving, Texas, Patrick (Carla) Bailey of Goshen, and Robert (Kathy) and Jonathon (Diane) Bailey, both of Goshen; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; two great-step-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Hahn of Wakarusa and Ruth Ann Hahn of Elkhart; and two brothers, Daniel (Gail) and Samuel (Hahn), both of Nappanee.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Pamela Bailey; a son, Joseph Bailey; and two brothers, Robert and Donald Hahn.
A devoted grandmother, she attended St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. Mrs. Bailey worked at Johnson Controls for more than 30 years.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, and for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, funeral service will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Pastor Richard Rinearson will officiate. Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery, Goshen.
