ELKHART — Thelma Peete, 85, passed away Nov. 4, 2013, at Elkhart General Hospital.
She was born Thelma Benson on Sept. 11, 1928, in Covington, Tenn.
She was an Elkhart resident since 1966. She was a retiree of Dygert Seating, where she was employed as an upholstery seamstress. She was a member of Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Macedonia Johnson-Benson; husband Willie Peete Jr.; son Clarence Peete; and daughter Mae Frances Piggie.
Survivors include her children, Naomi (James) Hines-Culbreath, of Indianapolis, Sherry (Michael) Phillips of South Bend and Annie V. Clark, Clarissa (the Rev. James) Johnson and Patricia, Willie Albert, Charles (Johnnie), David (Shelia), Michael and Charles Nathaniel Peete, all of Elkhart; brothers Eddie Benson and Richard Davis; 36 grandchildren; 77 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the noon Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, funeral service at Cannan Baptist Church. Burial will be in Prairie Street Cemetery.
