GOSHEN — Gerald Francis “Bud” Bowers, 95, passed away at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, in his residence.
He was born Sept. 18, 1918, in Bloomfield to the late A.E. Ellsworth and Ethel (Street) Bowers.
On July 7, 1968, he married Rebeca “Becky” Holt. She survives.
Their blended family includes Bud’s daughter, Sue Ann (James) Hampel of Elkhart, and Bud’s two granddaughters, Sarah and Amy; Becky’s two daughters, Margo Minich of Minneapolis and Marsha (Thomas) Henson of Elkhart, two grandsons, Jordan and Adam and four granddaughters, Jillian, Charlotte, Rebecca and Abbey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, A.E. Ellsworth and Ethel Bowers; one sister, Maxine Faye; and one brother, William “Bill” Bowers.
Bud worked for Vincent Bach as a brass mouthpiece buffer until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of St. David’s Episcopal Church and served as a senior warden on the vestry. He graduated from Concord High School in 1936. He was a past president of the Elkhart Bowling Association from 1960-1961. He was a member of the National Association of Miniatures (N.A.M.E). He was an avid Notre Dame and Chicago Cubs fan; he enjoyed bowling and was a U.S. Army veteran.
A celebration of life service will be Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at St. David’s Episcopal Church, 26824 C.R. 4, Elkhart, where visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until services begin at 2:30 p.m. Father Henry Randolph will officiate.
Memorial donations may be given to the Center for Hospice Care or St. David’s Episcopal Church.
