SOUTH BEND — Norman L. Johnson, 99, of South Bend and formerly of Elkhart, passed away Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, at Ironwood Health and Rehabilitation Center, South Bend.
He was born Oct. 4, 1914, in South Bend to Harold C. and Ethel (Baker) Johnson.
He married Alene E. Russell on June 27, 1936, in South Bend. She died on Aug. 31, 2005.
Surviving are a great-niece and a great-great niece, both of Elkhart; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald and Norman Jr. Johnson; two brothers, Everett and Carl Johnson; and a great-grandson, Justin Knapp.
Mr. Johnson was employed in the marine and RV industries. He was a manufacturers representative until the age of 84. He was instrumental in constructing a special houseboat for Johns Hopkins University to be used to track satellites at Cape Canaveral, Fla. He enjoyed his family, grandchildren, flowers, fishing and boating.
Family and friends may call for two hours prior to the 1 p.m. service Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral and Cremation Center, Elkhart. The Rev. Greg Henry will officiate. Entombment will follow in Chapel of Memories, Rice Cemetery.
