NAPPANEE — Forrest Glen Reed, 80, of Nappanee, died at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, in his residence after a short illness.

He was born April 5, 1933, in Nappanee to George M. and Dorothy Selna (Hardy) Reed.

Glen was a lifetime resident of Nappanee. He was a 1951 graduate of Nappanee High School.

On Dec. 25, 1951, he married Julia Anne Rensberger at the home of her parents, Wilbur and Mary Rensberger. They were married by the Rev. Sam Longnecker, pastor of Nappanee Church of the Brethren.

Glen was the former owner of Glenn’s Gulf Service Station in Nappanee. He later worked at Pletcher Furniture Warehouse and GCI, both in Nappanee. He served for 27 years with the Smokey Stover Fire Department and was former chief. Glen was a member of Nappanee Church of the Brethren, where he served on many committees. He enjoyed golfing, mushroom hunting and spending time traveling to enjoy his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Julia Anne Reed; daughters Rita (Michael) Polston of Lake Wales, Fla., and Cheryl (Francisco) Matos of Windsor, Conn.; sons G. Steven (Yvonne) Reed and Wayne C. Reed, both of Nappanee, and William Franklin (Edie) Reed of Haines City, Fla.; grandchildren Dawn (Allan) Cooper, Andrea (Chris) Groves, Stephanie Reed, Lindsay (Allan Ferrell) Reed, Lea Ann (Jeremy) Mast, Leslie (Aaron) Jubrey, Ian (Nicole) Reed, Sarah (Jonathan) Kehayias and Andrew Matos; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters Lucille Matz and Linda (Allan) Corwin, both of Wakarusa; brothers Lewis “Bill” (Vivian) Reed of Elkhart and George J. Reed of Mentone; and stepsister Dora Gosbin of Crumstown.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Cora Truex and Glennis Reed; stepsisters Maxine Ryman and Betty Miller; and stepbrother Charles Gaut.

Family and friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, and for one hour prior to the funeral service at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, at Nappanee Church of the Brethren. The Rev. Byrl Shaver will officiate. Burial will be in Hepton Union Cemetery.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be given to the Nappanee Fire Department or Nappanee Church of the Brethren.
