MISHAWAKA — Leroy Dale “Bud” Dipert, 73, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013.

He was born in Mishawaka on Oct. 16, 1939, to Virgil and Ruby (Kellie) Dipert.

On Sept. 6, 1975, he married the former Deena M. Kubiak.

He was a lifelong resident of Mishawaka.

Bud’s father, Virgil Dipert, and one brother, Denis Dipert, preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife, Deena Dipert; two daughters, Jenill (Jeff) Howell of Atlanta and Kelli Fizer (Nick Borton) of Mishawaka; two granddaughters, Shaylyn Bush and Raegan Freitag; one grandson, Gavyn Fizer; adopted granddaughter Kyliee Borton; mother Ruby Dipert; one sister, Betty Mae (Vern) Freeze of Pottsboro, Texas; two brothers, Tracy and Kirby (Vicky) Dipert of Mishawaka; and several nieces and nephews.

As Bud was a proud patriot, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1958 and served four years. He spent most of his working career at GTE. Beginning in 1966, he performed various duties starting as a residential telephone technician then climbing telephone poles and finally as a business customer equipment technician. He retired from GTE (Verizon) in Elkhart after 35 years of service, spent a few years caring for his granddaughters, and then went to work part time for McCarthy Insurance Co., which he retired from in December 2012.

Bud was proud to live in Mishawaka and was a member of the DeAmicis Club, BK Club and the Mishawaka High School Alumni. In earlier years he was an accomplished bowler and enjoyed spending time with friends. He was an avid Mishawaka “Cavemen” fan and an IU fan, who would travel long distances to show his support.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle who will be missed by all who knew him.

Visitation for Bud will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W Eighth St., Mishawaka. Services will be immediately following visitation at 5 p.m. Burial services will be private.
