BRISTOL — Mr. Donald W. Alabaugh, 68, of Bristol, passed away after an extended illness at 4:45 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at Memorial Hospital in South Bend.
He was born in South Bend on Oct. 11, 1944, to the late Robert W. and Phyllis (Wolfgang) Alabaugh. He later married Jeri A. Beckwith in 1986 in Bristol. She survives at home.
Also surviving are daughters Kelley (Larry Trent) Kline of Elkhart and Kim (Jerry) Gruszynski of South Bend; son Rodney (Dawn) Alabaugh of Edwardsburg, Mich.; stepson Ryan (Angela) Bachtel of Bangor, Maine; sister Linda “Lynn” (Bob) Farrell of Sebring, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his sidekick, Mason, his beloved black lab.
Services will be at Bristol United Methodist Church, 201 S. Division St., Bristol, on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, with visitation beginning at 4 p.m. followed by a celebration of Don’s life at 6 p.m. Pastor Fred Stayton will officiate. Burial will take place at noon Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola. Arrangements have been placed under the care and direction of Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart.
Don served as general foreman for Gunite Corporation of Elkhart for more than 20 years, retiring in 2006. He was an avid fisherman and belonged to several fishing organizations, including Bass Masters. He enjoyed bowling and golfing in his earlier days. He was also a member of Bristol VFW 143 and Bristol United Methodist Church.
Memorials may be given to the church or to the Humane Society of Elkhart County.
