ELKHART — Charles Bertch, 85, of Elkhart, died at 3 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at Valley View Health Care Center.
Charlie was born July, 17, 1927, in Elkhart to Rollin Dewey and Florence (Neff) Bertch.
He married Patricia Schalliol on Dec. 27, 1975.
She survives along with their children, Nancy (Dennis) Horvath of South Bend, Susan (Terry) Burgess of Union, Mich., Linda (Geno) D’Ambrose of Tombstone, Ariz., Mike (Deb) Martin of Winder, Ga., Tonia (J) Seth of Sumter, S.C., Tim (Jean) Martin of Elkhart and Julie (Alison) Phillips of Elkhart; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Doris Snyder of Goshen.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Kathryn Rowe, and a daughter, Londa Hillmer.
Charlie proudly served two tours of duty in the U.S. Navy and, upon his discharge, he played for the Cub’s farm team in Janesville, Wisc., then worked in the mobile home industry until retirement. Charlie enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s sporting events, fishing, golfing, family and dining out with his wife.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the noon service Saturday, July 20, at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. The Rev. Andrea Hickey will officiate.
Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
