OSCEOLA — Miriam E. Kesler Hartman, 88, died early Tuesday morning, July 9, 2013, in her home.

She was born April 5, 1925, in Noble County to Kenneth W. and Maurine (Holman) Carpenter.

On April 5, 1942, she married Benjamin E. Kesler in Shipshewana. He died on April 14, 1981.

She later married Arthur P. Hartman on Aug. 12, 1982. He died on June 16, 2005.

She is survived by a daughter, Connie (David) Runnels of Osceola; six sons, James Kesler of New Hartford, N.Y., Kenneth Kesler of Ann Arbor, Mich., Richard Kesler of Goshen, Steven Kesler of Nappanee, Stanley Kesler of Indiana, Pa., and Dennis Kesler of Coldwater, Mich.; two stepdaughters, Ila Faye (Dan) Stump of Albuquerque, N.M., and Julia (James) Norton of Goshen; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Jewett of Goshen and Verda (Kenneth) Lorenz and Greentown; and a brother, Charles A. Carpenter of White Pigeon, Mich.

She was preceded in death by a stepson, Scotson Hartman, and a brother, W. Dail Carpenter.

Miriam started working in food service at Goshen College. She later worked for many years at Goshen Hospital, before her retirement. She was a member of Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 12, and for one hour prior to the 10 a.m. Saturday, July 13, funeral service, all at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen. The Rev. Harold Knight will officiate. Burial will follow in West Goshen Cemetery.
