Herbert E. "Buck" Rogers, 71 Bristol

Feb. 15, 1942 - June 4, 2013

BRISTOL — Herbert E. “Buck” Rogers, 71, of Bristol, passed away peacefully after an extended illness at 10:43 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2013, in his home.

He was born in Indianapolis on Feb. 15, 1942, and was raised by his mother and stepfather, Lula “Grace” (Pollock) and James A. Ellis.

They preceded him in death along with a son, Neal Rogers; a daughter and son-in-law, Tanya (Dan) Klecz; and a brother, William Rogers.

He married Nita L. (Crutcher) Rogers Aug. 25, 1960, and they divorced. He later married Carol L. (Circle) Kilgore Feb. 25, 1983, in Branson, Tenn. She survives at home.

Also surviving is a son, James A. (René) Rogers of Michigantown; grandchildren Ashley (Matt) Morris of Greensburg, Kristopher Klecz of Frankfort, and Aleesa (Matthew) Ferrel of Forest; and great-grandchildren Mason, Parker and Colt Morris.

In accordance with Buck’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2013, at Billings Funeral Home, Elkhart with visitation starting at 1 p.m.

Buck was a lifetime employee of Haynes Stellite Company, where he started out as summer help at the Kokomo plant in 1961. After 46 years with the company, he retired in 2007 as a manager for the Stellite Coating Division in Goshen.

He was an accomplished woodworker and used his talent to assist in the building of Bristol’s Fruithills Winery where he not only helped build the wine racks but served as their “unofficial” sommelier.

He traveled to 11 foreign countries and every state with the exception of Alaska. He was an avid Indy and NASCAR racing fan and enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his dogs, BJ, Sara Lee and Scooter. He trained as a distance runner and ran three Chicago Marathons.

He was active in the Boy Scouts of America and was a Cub Scout Pack Leader, Webelos Leader and Boy Scout Commissioner.

But despite his many accomplishments he will be best remembered for his relentless and never-wavering support of his beloved Chicago Bears.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorial donations be given to Humane Society of Elkhart County.

Online condolences can reach the family at www.billingsfuneralhome.com.
