Robert I. McEndarfer

ELKHART — Robert “Mac” I. McEndarfer, 82, of Elkhart, passed away at 4:44 p.m. Monday, May 13, 2013, at Greenleaf Living Center with his family by his side after an extended illness.

Robert was born July 6, 1930, in North Liberty to the late Wilfred and Eva (Mangus) McEndarfer and was a lifelong area resident. On Feb. 24, 1951, he married the former Sharon J. Sexton, who survives.

Mac is also survived by one son, Kenn R. (Cathy) McEndarfer of Elkhart; four grandchildren, Jodi (Matthew) Kayser of Mishawaka, Brian (Gretchen) McEndarfer of South Bend, Tara (Bill) Williams of Elkhart and JoAnne Krohr of Goshen; and four great-grandchildren, Marlee McEndarfer and Aiden McEndarfer, both of South Bend, Sawyer Williams of Elkhart and Tanner Krohr of Goshen.

Mac proudly serviced his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean conflict. He retired from Sears Roebuck Co. after 30 years of service as a service technician. After retiring, Mac and a lifelong friend co-owned Duffer’s Wood Shop.

Mac enjoyed woodworking, mechanical repairing, farming, NASCAR, watching “NCIS” on TV and, most of all, spending time with his grandchildren and family, whom he loved and cherished.

The family would like to thank their friends, neighbors and Greenleaf Living Care of Elkhart for all their care and support.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Hanley and Sons Southwest Chapel Funeral Home. Friends and family may visit one hour prior to the service. A graveside military service will follow at Sumption Prairie Cemetery in South Bend.

The Hanley and Sons Southwest Chapel Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road and S.R. 23, handled arrangements and extends its deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the McEndarfer family.
