BRISTOL — Dorothy J. Thwaits, 79, of Bristol and Sarasota, Fla., passed away Friday, May 3, 2013, at Sprenger Healthcare Center, Mishawaka.

She was born July 26, 1933, in Arlington, Ohio, to Clair A. and Connie E. (Clum) Leiber.

She married Donald Jones in 1952. He died in 1954.

She married John Nicholson in 1956 and later divorced.

She married Bill Helm. He died in 1992.

She married Dale R. Thwaits on Nov. 28, 1992.

Survivors include her husband, Dale of Bristol; her children, Karen (George) Bake of Osceola, Cindy (Carl) Gutzman of Vermillion, S.D., and James (Amy) Nicholson of Monroe, Wis.; stepdaughter Karen (Jeff) Smaka of Bristol; six grandchildren, Jenny (Dusty), George III, Monica (Raleigh), Tyler, Samuel and Luke; two great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren, Todd, Ryan and Kari; four great-stepgrandchildren; sister Beatrice (Ned) Parcell of Elkhart; and a brother, Robert (Sandy) Leiber of Eldorado Hills, Calif.

Three grandsons, Mathew T., Timothy W. and Peter J. Gutzman, preceded her in death.

Dorothy was a homemaker and retired from E.R. Carpenter Co. in production after six years. She also was a waitress for J.C. Penney and the Cottage Inn. She enjoyed her grandchildren and playing bridge and pinochle.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 6, 2013, at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, Elkhart, where services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2013. Pastor Chuck Lynch will officiate. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013, in Thompson Cemetery, Hancock County, Ohio, with Pastor Dave Harper officiating.
