BRISTOL — Terry A. Streib, 75, of Bristol, former owner of Fluid Fun Canoe and Kayak Sales, died April 21, 2013, in Jackson, Mich.

Terry was born April 18, 1938, to Albert and Melba (Howard) Streib in Marion.

He graduated from Marion High School and Ball State University. He received a master’s degree in education from St. Francis College. He taught school in Gas City, Bristol and Elkhart. He retired from teaching to open Fluid Fun Canoes full time. He became legendary for his long trips through the Everglades, around the Baja Peninsula and down the Mississppi River.

He began canoe racing in 1969, becoming a national champion several times in kayak and canoe. He sponsored many canoe races including the National Championships in Bristol. Mr. Streib was active in canoe and kayak racing through 2011, winning the C-2 nationals in his age group in 2011.

Terry married Janet Cross on Feb. 2, 1963.

He is survived by his wife and two children, Terry Mathew Streib (Mandy) of Grayling, Mich., and daughter Susan (Zan) Raynor (Daniel); and his grandchildren, Kinsey of Lafayette, Dane, Evelyn, Kiel and Avery, all of Grayling, Mich., and Paisley, Mackinac, Magnolia, Cavenidish, and Avonlea Raynor, all of Bristol.

A public riverside memorial will be at Fluid Fun Canoes in Bristol at 6 p.m. Monday, May 6, 2013.
