ELKHART — Rondell R. Kern Sr., 69, of Elkhart and formerly of Porter Township, White Pigeon, Mich., died Friday, April 26, 2013, at home after an extended illness.
He was born Nov. 24, 1943, in Goshen to Harry and Gracie (Phillips) Kern.
Rondell moved to Elkhart last year after living most of his life in the White Pigeon area.
He married Arlene M. Swartz. She died March 26, 2012.
Rondell worked as a mechanic, was a self-employed truck driver and worked in trailer manufacturing. He enjoyed racing and working on cars.
Survivors include his children, Samantha (John) Wodtkey of Elkhart, Henry Kern of White Pigeon, Rondell Jr. (Lisa) Kern of MaGee, Miss., Rob Roy Kern of Marcellus, Mich., and Scott Kern of Logansport; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings Irene Firkins and Jim (Betty) Kern, both of Three Rivers, Mich., Marlin Kern of White Pigeon and Robert Kern of Idaho; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Mark Potter; and six brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Farrand Funeral Home, White Pigeon, where a funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Pastor David Bell of Mottville Community Church will officiate. Interment will be in Mottville Township Cemetery.
