ELKHART — Merry Carol Delks, 79, of Elkhart, passed away at 12:04 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at Elkhart General Hospital.
She was born Dec. 23, 1933, in Decatur, Ill., to Donald L. and Margaret (Rose) Harris. She married Gerald F. Delks on Jan. 1, 1952, in Indianapolis.
He survives along with three daughters, Julie (Mark) Campbell, Laurie (Fran) Yonkers and Angela Wills; three sons, Steven (Stacie) Delks, David Delks and Richard (Betsy) Delks; grandchildren Holly, 41, Tyler, 25, Colin, 20, Carson, 17, Leland, 16, Brittany, 28, Nolen, 15, Rylee, 13, Courtney, 26, Emily, 20, Allison, 17, Adam, 13, Bryce, 17, and Brandon, 15; and one great-grandson, Coen, 5.
Merry had two brothers, Bud and Donald, deceased; a sister, Sue, deceased; two living sisters, Linda and Margaret; and a sister-in-law, Mary Geneva.
Friends may call from noon to 2 and 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2013, with the funeral service at 6 p.m. at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, Elkhart, with Pastor James Fischer officiating.
Mrs. Delks retired from Elixer Industries after 20-plus years as an office manager. Her faith in God was very important to her. She deeply loved her husband of 61 years and her children and grandchildren. She was active in supporting the Women’s Care Center, Toys for Tots and children of Third World countries. Her greatest joys were spending time with her family and watching her grandchildren at their various activities.
Merry was a positive, uplifting example to others. She was a blessing in every life she touched with her fun-loving spirit that only found good in others.
